Carvil was engaged by Firmdale Hotels to assist it in its plans to acquire the former municipal car pound at Mandela Way to build a new state-of-the-art commercial laundry that will create a minimum of 150 new jobs. Carvil assisted Firmdale in its discussions with Southwark Council highlighting the regenerative benefits of the scheme and in agreeing the terms for the sale. Carvil continued to be retained to handle the public affairs and stakeholder engagement programme associated with the planning application that was approved in March 2015.
Following the publication of the draft Old Kent Road Area Action Plan, Carvil was appointed by Firmdale to assist it with revised proposals to redevelop its site creating a mixed-use scheme including retail, office/light industrial uses comprising the laundry and 231 residential units. As well as arranging a series of one-to-one meetings with key stakeholders Carvil arranged a two-day public exhibition in July 2017.
The site was subsequently sold to British Land who obtained consent to deliver a 13,000 sqm multi-level logistics scheme.
